Website Redesign Tips

Have you taken a look at your website lately? Do you find it stale or outmoded? Then perhaps it’s time for a renovation! Redesigning your website is not only an opportunity to get up to date but to inject some new life into your company!

Now, I realize that this task can look a bit daunting but don’t worry; that’s what I’m here for. I’ve written the following tips for you to keep in mind before you decide to embark on this new, and let’s not forget exciting, endeavor.

Now, let’s get to work!

Project Objectives

Website Redesign

I always suggest having a clear objective for your website. Start out by asking yourself why you’re doing this. This will help to get you into the right mindset. This analytical approach will help to determine what path your redesign will take. For example, do you want to increase traffic to your site? Or maybe you’d like to improve on the functionality? Perhaps you’d like to offer your visitors new features?

This is an organic process that will help you discover the path you want to take for your website. Stay true and don’t stray from it and I believe it will help you create the ideal website.

Content
This is the perfect opportunity to revise your content! Is it clear and concise? Does it communicate your core values and objectives? How can you improve on your call to action?

I’ve always maintained that content is a key component to a successful website. Don’t let potential clients click away because they were turned off or bored by what they read!

Next up is the user experience. Your website needs to be responsive to the needs of your potential clients. If they come to your site through their phones or tablets, it should respond accordingly. An optimized site will display correctly no matter what device they are using. And with more and more users on mobile platforms, you need to cater to their needs.

Features
In order to enhance the user experience, I suggest making an outline of features that you want to include in your website. Items download? E-trade? Calendar schedules? All of these and more can improve the user experience and therefore satisfaction.

Content Management
When you update your site with new content, it’s imperative to have a content management system in place. This way, you have more control over your updates. I suggest using Drupal and WordPress. They basically eliminate the need for coding experience and make updating your website nearly effortless.

Target Market
It is indispensable to know your audience. Have you identified their age, social mobility, gender, etc? Once you have a clear idea of who your audience is, it becomes easier to create tailor made call to actions that will increase traffic to your site. You can even create custom looks that will attract your desired market.

Time is an Investment
Your website represents who you are. It is the face of your company and a tool that is always working. So, always keep in mind that the larger the site, the bigger the maintenance. This includes copywriting, hosting, imagery, and many other aspects. Remember that the more detailed you want your website to be, the more time it’s going to take to get it right.

Conclusion
Are you excited yet? Redesigning your website is your opportunity to reconnect with what made you start on this path in the first place. It will let you know where you are and more importantly, where you’re going.
